So you’ve decided to help others by launching your very own nonprofit organization? Congratulations!
We know this can be a daunting task, as well as a time filled with both excitement and trepidation, but that’s why we’re here to help. Our free starting a nonprofit organization checklist is perfect for all those just starting out on their nonprofit journey.
First up, you’ll want to choose a name for your nonprofit. This is especially important as it will help others identify your organization, what it does, and how it differs from other nonprofits in the area.
Next, it’s critical that you define your organization’s mission and vision. These statements will define what it is your nonprofit stands for and accomplishes – and its impact – both now and in the future.

From there, you’ll need to determine your population. This includes two groups of people – one, those who you will serve through your mission. And, two, who you will solicit for funds. These audiences can (and should be) further segmented into more targeted groups later, but you can start at a higher level for now.

Your board of directors will be critical to the success of your organization, so make sure you choose individuals from varied backgrounds who you know will have the time and energy to dedicate to your cause!
